REThink The Referral - Part 2 How To Make Facebook and Instagram Referral Machines for Your Salon

What You Can Do and Why It Works

There is so much hype with the alogrithm changes lately and while it's not irrelevant information, I've noticed people are forgetting to utilize Facebook Business Pages in a few simple ways that are not only free, but should create a decent organic reach. These techniques have been putting clients in my chair for years and I know they can do the same for you.

What You Can Do

1. Ask every single client who walks out your door happy to review you on Facebook. When they do, it will pop up in at least some of their friends feeds, and more importantly it will add solid social proof to your portfolio. You can then use these testimonials elsewhere - like your website! Don't be afraid to do this!

2. Ask for the check in!!! Put a sign right on your miror where everone can see it "Check in On Facebook at Your Studio" Don't be afraid to remind your client to check in ESPECIALLY if they're scrolling on their phone during the service! Most clients are very happy to do so and love to support small businesses!

3. I suggest that no matter where you are you create your own Facebook Business Page with Location that is SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR BRAND - bc facebook and IG are linked, this will carry over to IG as well. Booth Renters - You're not getting paid to promote anyone else, and also, when you move locations, you won't lose your check ins or reviews, you just have to change the address on your page! Drive your reviews to your own brand as well. Reviews and check ins that are not directly linked to YOUR BRAND are basically worthless to you if you decide to leave your current location. If it's not connected directly to your brand, it's...

4. Create a a great photo backdrop or way to encourage a Selfie (and check in) station. You can (and should) also take pictures of every client for your own portfolio. You can offer to take pics with their phone if they want different angle, or provide a selfie stick. No matter how you do it, you want to create an atmosphere that will get them excited about taking a picture of their new hair/skin/lashes and encourage the check in during that time. I'll have more tips for this on other blogs a video in the Suite Little Empire VIP Group on Facebook!

Getting a client to check in WITH a picture WILL generate likes and engagement on their post.

Why It Works

This technique works well because it creates a way for anyone who sees their post to easily find your brand - one click on the check in and they're on your page looking at all of your beautiful work and then following your sales funnel right into your chair.

Where your client engages the most on social media will obviously affect this scenario. I love the Facebook check in and also review the most because (as long as they use and engage on Facebook, it has the biggest potential reach). But if your client is all about Instagram, still ask them to check in when they post a pic, and ask them to tag you in the post!!! That will help you gain followers who are interested in services similar to the one your client posted about!

Don't discount Snapchat either! If you have a snap-star in your chair, you never know how many followers they have who love to watch their story! Have them snap their way through their appointment with you - and as they're wrapping it up have them direct their followers to your Instagram, Facebook, or even your website to see more pics of their final look. Offer to do a quick selfie video at the end of their appointment and plug away "If you're as much fun as THIS GIRL, please go to TheCurlGirl.com to book today" "Follow my insta @thecurlgirl to see more pics of our hair adventure". You get the jist.

This is a Social Media Referral system and it's a very organic way to get in front of more people who might be interested in picking up what you're putting down.
