Why Every Independent Stylist Should Have An Email List

Having an email list can help independent stylists in so many ways!

Email is a way to reach your entire client list quickly and easily.

Here are some common objections to taking the time to build (or using) an email list that I've heard, and why I IMPLORE you to rethink it.

It will take me forever to collect everyone's email-

If you are using online booking you most likey already have an email list even if you don't utilize it. Most online booking software offers a native email marketing option so you can send email blasts quickly and easily.

If you don't use some kind of crm (customer relationship software) I also implore you to start asap, but in the meantime a simple sign up sheet in the salon is better than nothing.

However you do it, start collecting email addresses.

"I use social media to connect with my clients"

That's great, BUT......

Social Media algorithms are forever changing and using it to reach every one of your clients in a timely manner to make an annoucement IS IMPOSSIBLE. LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE

You can always use it as a backup or also post information you want seen on social media, but it is never 100% gauranteed to reach your target. I'll give you a 100% gaurantee though, YOU WON"T REACH ALL OF YOUR CLIENTS WITH SOCIAL MEDIA.

"I text my clients"

Text is a solid form of communication, especially in case you have to cancel your day due to illness or any kind of emergency. It's not the best long term tool to reach out to clients to market to them, or use as a business tool for mass communication.

"It's not worth my time."

Not only can an email list make it easy for you to reach your entire client base DIRECTLY, it can become a valuble asset as both an independent stylist as well as a way to cash in on clients buying power beyond the chair with affiliate marketing.

Booking reminders - send emails to those who havent been to you in x amount of time. Most CRM software offers a way to target clients by length of time since they've been in your chair. I use Schedulcity, and the way they do it is SUPER SUPER simple, it's nothing to be even SLIGHTLY intimidated by.

Let clients know you have last minute availibilty, extended hours, or any kind of new or updated schedule or service information.

If you move to a different location you will have a simple, quick, and almost foolproof way to make sure all of your clients are aware - without spending a ton of time texting and making phone calls, simply include the information in an email and also in their confirmation emails.

I can usually book between $400 and $1500 of services WITHIN A FEW HOURS OF SENDING ONE SIMPLE EMAIL!

Email is another layer of insurance you can add to your business to make sure you can reach your clients when you need to, boost bookings, market add-on services, get clients excited about products or anything you're selling in your studio and can also be used in partnership with affiliates to offer products and services to your clients that you know might interest them and MAKE YOU MORE MONEY.

So, don't wait another day! Use a free database like Schedulicity's or Gloss Genius's free version, a spreadsheet in google docs, even a plain paper sign up list in your studio, you can use something a little more advanced like mail chimp or convert kit so you can collect more data, I can show you ALL THE TRICKS, but to start, JUST GET THOSE EMAIL ADDRESSES!
