Social Media For Stylists - What To Post in 2019

If you don't use your social media it's time to start. If you've already realized it's value and want to stay on top of it, it's time to up your game.

Instagram is still the fastest growing social network and in 2019 you're going to see more people than ever turn to this platform to either find a stylist, or to check out the work of one that was referred to them.

LONG GONE are the days where you were ahead of the game by posting AT ALL. And, the days of ten million pics of (even though they're beautiful) balayaged blowouts alone holding the interest of client or fellow stylist alike are soon, if not already, in the rear view mirror.

Don't get me wrong, these types of simple still shots that show your work are still important to add to your profiles, but it will most likely take more to stand out and create enthusiastic engagement.

We still need to show our skills, but to stay ahead and make putting time into our already limited time into social media pay off, we need to be ahead of the curve.

Tips to stand out as a stylist on social media in 2019:

CONSISTENCY - try to post once a day, at minimum.

Multiple Images - if you don't have video in your post, get them swiping - ALGORYTHMS reward engagement - swiping to your next picture counts as engagement.

Video - video used to give you an edge, but now it's the new normal. You need to include it if you want to get your content in front of the right people.

Video that engages without sound - no one is listening to a talking head anymore. Find creative ways to get your point across that don't require sound. THIS IS A BIG ONE, FOLKS. Take the talking to youtube. I promise you won't regret this strategy.

Stories/Live/IGtv - right now, and this coming year, these matter.

Use the "poll" and "meter" (the sliding heart eye emoji) as a super simple hack to get engagment on your stories. People are people and they like to give their opinion. Try it!

At the risk of being repetitive, this is SO important.... .The Instagram algorythm rewards those users who are adding content that keeps other users on the site longer. Instagram is a for profit site and they make money by keeping users engaged on their platform for as long as possible. You scratch their back, they'll show your posts to more people. ;)
